This is the breakfast of choice in our house. My son has been scarfing down 3 pieces since he was a little over a year old. I've tried to use whole wheat bread or that white/wheat bread over the years but it does not come out nearly as good.
For about 7 or 8 pieces of French Toast:
7/8 pieces of white bread (depends on how long you dunk the bread in the mixture for)
4 whole eggs
2 tbs. whole milk
2 tbs. brown sugar
1 tsp. molassas
1 tsp. vanilla*
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Mix just one egg and all the rest of the ingredients. Once that mixture is all incorporated, mix in the other 3 eggs. This process keeps the cinnamon and brown sugar from clumping up into balls. Dip each piece of bread into the mixture briefly, then grill. I use an electric skillet brushed with butter. Cook until set and caramelized.
*I use Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Bean Paste which contains actual vanilla bean seeds. If you use this type, be sure to wisk the egg mixture frequently so all the tasty beans don't stay on the bottom.
